Self-binding Receiving Blankets

I final finished these three receiving blankets and delivered them to the new babies at church. One of the babies is already four months old but I think she will still get some good use out of it. This was a super quick gift to make. I loosely followed the tutorial on Christine's blog. I bought 1 yard of flannel fabric for the front and 1 yard of flannel for the back and washed the fabrics before starting. I then ironed the flannel and folded it into fourths and cut the back fabric 18 X 20 (36 X 40 if you don't fold into fourths before cutting). The front was also folded into fourths and cut at 16 X 18 (or 32 X 36). This was the largest cut I could get from the flannel after washing. If yours doesn't come to these measurements just make the back 4" larger then the front. This gives you approx. 1" miter around the top.

Quilting through cross stitch

Kathy asked me if I quilted throught the cross stitching. So to answer Kathy's question, yes I do quilt through the cross stitching. And the promised pictures. I don't always quilt through the cross stitching and I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it.

Cross Stitch quilt - quilting

I started the quilting on the cross stitched quilt. I'm not crazy about the design. I need some kind of background fill. Any suggesations? The picture is not true colors and the stain is really not that noticeable but I wanted you to be able to see the quilting (even the little wobbles).

Just a stipple?

This is what the design is suppose to be if I follow the pattern. It's not crosshatched they just go one way and that doesn't look balenced to me.

Jackie (I guess I edited my signature out while I was moving the pictures around.)

Tutu Cute!

Who wears an apron in the kitchen when you have a Tutu? And what dresses up overalls better then a Tutu? I came across some blogs about Tutu's and was bitten by the Tutu bug. They are just too cute!
I used a ribbon for the waist like the video below but used two 6" rolls of tulle. Here are some links for your if you know someone needing a Tutu. This took 1 hour of my time start to finish. Super quick!

The top is loaded!

I have the top loaded and I'm ready to start quilting. I have decided to use So Fine thread on top and Bottom Line on the bottom. The backing fabric is a white on white print, not my first choice but when you wait until the last minute to start a quilt you have to pick from what the local quilt shop has on hand. The blue marks are the quilting lines that I marked to see the design. I don't think I will have to mark the whole quilt since I can see the dots of the design but it was really hard to see what the design was until I marked them with the blue marker.

Cross stitched Quilt top

I'm still here. I have been working on some projects that I can't show just yet. This is a quilt top I bought at an antique shop last summer. I have taken in apart and repieced it. The three sections were not matched up like they should of been. There is also a part that still doesn't match but it is going to stay that way. I think it was a problem with the printing not my piecing. I also soaked it in vintage soak to bring it back to white or at least an off white. The quilting marks didn't come out with the soaking so I'm going to quilt it as marked. I bought a Quilters Dream Cotton select loft for the batting. I'm not sure what thread I will be using. I would like to use So Fine but I haven't used it yet so I will have to do a little playing before starting this one. Wish me luck, this is really way out of my comfort zone. Oh, I still need to get a backing for it unless you think muslin will be O.K. to use.

Batik Fabric

These are some of the great Hoffman batiks that I got from Batiks Plus. I also got the 884 Sunflower quarter collection. My DH gave me a gift certificate to Batiks Plus for our anniversary. Now I just need to find some time to do some sewing for myself. I also have all of the Bali pops but I haven't been able to bring myself to cutting them up yet.

Baptist Fan

This is a customers quilt I just finished with the Baptist Fan design.

Coin Quilt - finished

The coin quilt is finally finished! O.K. I still need to sew on the label but you can see it is pinned on and ready to sew. I'm going to do that tonight but I didn't think you wanted to wait another week to see the label on. You may not be able to tell from the photo but I used a multi pieced binding on this one. I saw this over on Cherly's blog Naptime Quilter.

Cactus Wreath Quilt

I think the name of this quilt is Cactus Wreath. This is a customers quilt that I quilted. The top was perfectly pieced and a lot of fun to quilt. Lots of Leafs and some swirls. This is the first time I tried the swirls. I think I like them.

Jumper fits

I tried to get a better picture of the jumper but this is all I got. The turtleneck and the leggings could of been a little smaller but the jumper fits.

Jumper - update

I found a turtleneck and matching leggings for the jumper. If you are planning on making one of these you might want to get the t-shirt/turtleneck and leggings first before you buy your fabrics I didn't have much choice in the colors, luckly I found a light pink that matches pretty well.

Reversable Jumper

I got a little side tracked. I've been looking for a dress for my Granddaughter for winter and wasn't happy with anything I was finding so I decided to make something myself. I used a Simplicity pattern 7872. I'm not sure if it is still available or not this was in my patterns and was close to what I was wanting. The pattern doesn't call for it to be reversable and I didn't find any patterns that were. I'm hear to tell you if you don't know how to make this reversable I'm still not sure if I can tell you how. I though just make two put them right side together leave a side seam open and turn. Wrong! You have to do a few more steps mine included a lot of reaping out of seams. I did sew the whole thing on the machine, no hand sewing here! Anyone that knows me knows hand sewing is not something I do. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I hope it fits if not I think I can make another one in a lot less time then the first one. I still need to get some buttons and make the button holes but that should be the easy part. I hope finding a pink or white turtle neck and some leggings will be just as easy too.

I'm still here!

Just wanted to let you know I'm still here. I'm working on a custom quilt right now.

I also found some lime green Minkee for the back of the Coin quilt.
