Here is the last quilt of 2011. I wasn't sure I was going to get it finished before the year was up. This is a customers quilt that likes lots of feathers. Quilting feathers makes me procrastinate big time, I'm fine once I get started but getting started takes some time. Is it just me?.

I love how it turned out. The back looks like a whole cloth quilt too!

This is a customers quilt top that she brought to me to baste so she can hand quilt it. I love vintage quilt tops. No reproductions in this quilt top! I hope you enjoy the feedsack blocks as much as I do. I wish you could see them in person.

I found this cute Composition Caddy Tutorial at Splenorfalls. I even completed one yesterday! I couldn't find the Mead Primary Journal that she used but I will keep my eyes open for one when the school supplies hit the stores.
Did anyone notice the quilt in the background? This is DD's quilt that I hope to get the binding on soon. I will do another post when it is finished.

Here is my finished RK solids only quilt! I have it hanging in my bathroom. Yes, I know this is not normally where you would hang a quilt but I have this big empty space that I don't know what else to do with it. I would of taken the quilt outside to take a photo but this is what our yard looks like after all the storms. I took the picture above with the generator running because our power was out at the time too.

STLMQG is doing a pin cushion swap at the Feb. meeting.

I know this doesn't look like a pin cushion yet. It would make a great quilt block!A little sewing. What it still doesn't look like a pin cushion?
This is the first one I attempted. It will be staying with me.
These are all of them I made. The Pink, green, and white (bottom right) one will be going to the meeting with me. I hope someone loves polka dots as much as I do. This is one huge pin cushion about 6", I think it could double as a pillow (without the pins of course). Oh and did I mention that the majority of the points match in the center?

Urban lattice - quilt top

Did you notice all the numbers and letters on the blocks? I marked my blocks with white chalk so they hopefully get sewn in the same order I arranged them on the design wall. I didn't spend a couple of days starring and rearranging for nothing. The chalk will wash off in the first wash or you can wipe it off with a micro fiber cloth (I love those things).
Quilt top all sewn together! Ready to be quilted as soon as I decide on a backing.

Urban lattice - fabric choices

I have decided to make the baby size (36 X 48) of the Urban Lattice quilt. I never seem to have boy quilts on hand when I need one, I always have girl quilts. I'm going to use the strip on the left with the fabrics in the middle. If I get this one completed I was thinking maybe using the strip on the right with just the blue. I think the stripe will make an interesting design in the center. Time will tell if I ever get the first one completed. I really should just concentrate on the first one for now. Because while looking for fabric I came across some charm packs of Snow Days and was sidetracked.
This is the result of my sidetracking. The half square blocks are all pieced and on the design wall. Just the blocks have been sewn. I am still moving them around every time I walk by it.

Squre in a square quilt

I finished my mom's square in a square quilt!

One of the hardest things about finishing the quilt is getting it folded to fit in the box.

I used lots of tape to keep it from popping open during the trip back.
And forgot to put the backing scraps from trimming the quilt. I did open it up and put the fabric inside.

This quilt was made with no piecing, really it was!

I used Melody Johnson's method she posted about on June 18th . If you haven't been to her site Fibermania you are in for a really treat. It is quilted with straight lines using King Tut variegated thread. Did you go look at Melody's blog? She also has a flicker account with her quilts lots of eye candy there to look at. She also has some amazing knitting projects to share with you too and a new puppy!

Not much sewing or quilting going on right now.

I did make these lanyards for my DD to use at college. I also made one for my niece but didn't get a picture of it. It was from the green polka dot fabric left over from the apron. Picture the pink one on the left in lime green.

Not sure which clips she will like better. The clips in the middle came with the key rings so I just left them on I don't think they need them but I didn't need them either. The ones on the outside came from Hobby Lobby. I bought 3 lanyards with the cords and clipped the cords off. I could find the clips but not the clips with the swivels.
Yes, these took all of about an hour to make. Super fast and simple, my kind of project!

I also worked on the Take 5 quilt this weekend. You didn't think I finished it did you? It has been sadly sitting since June. I hope to have the top completed by this weekend.

Batik baby quilt - part two

You should have all your strips layed out on your design wall.

Did you notice the post-it notes? I number my rows so I don't get them out of order. I also mark an arrow below the number going to the right of the left. This tells me what way to iron my seems and they will all nestle together nicely. Heat up the iron and press all of the seems.

You are now ready to sew your rows together!

Batik Baby Quilt - Part one

I'm working on a Pink baby quilt from Batik Plus. The squares are already cut to 6 1/2" so I'm ready to start. The quilt will finish at approx. 60" X 60". I start by randomly match up two different squares and sewing them together. We will not be ironing any of the seems until ALL of the patches have been sewn into strips. Than I lay them out on my design wall (10 in each row and 5 columns). You should have 50 two patches. If you paired all your squares up you will have extras. DO NOT IRON THE SEEMS!
Take 2 of the two squares you just sewed together and sew them together making a four patch strip. You will need 20 of these four patch strips. Remember to keep 10 two patches so you can make your rows of 10. DON'T GET YOUR IRON OUT YET!
I sewed the four patch strip to the two patch strip making a 8 patch strip. You will need 10 of these. STILL NO IRONING!
Then sew the 8 patch strip to the four patch strip. You should now have 10/10 patch strips.

You didn't plug your iron in yet, did you? We will be doing that in the part two.

I completed the Feathered wreath quilt this weekend! I didn't have any quilt holders to get a good picture and I was in a hurry to get it back to the customer so she could sew the binding on.A little bit closer.
I messed with the photo settings so you could see the quilting a little better. It really is purple and green not the colors you are seeing here.

Feathered Wreaths

Wow! Feathered wreaths take awhile to do. I have all of the feathered wreaths quilted in the pinwheel blocks and all the ruler work completed on the other blocks and the border. On to the solid purple blocks now.

Close-up of the quilting. Swirls in small inside border double piano key in the large border and meandering swirls in the center. It still has some chalk left on the quilt from marking.

Customer's quilt - Log Cabin?

This is a customer's quilt that I quilted with an edge-to-edge design call Feathed Curl. The pattern looks like a log cabin but if you look close (click on the picture and it should enlarge) it isn't. Do you know the name of this pattern?

leftover Jelly Pops

I have been playing with the leftovers from my Jelly pop quilt. These are only about 3" square. I'm thinking a small table topper or candle quilt.

This one is still on the design wall. I saw one like this on someones blog and now I can't find it. If you think you know where I saw it let me know. I would love to revisit the site.

WOW! A whole month gone and no posts. I have been busy quilting customer quilts (really I have) but with the lack of sunshine that we have been having I just can't get any pictures of the quilting. These were the only ones I could get.

Minkee blankets

A few of the Minkee blankets I have made lately.

This one was made for my new Granddaughter.
Minkee was used for the front and back with nothing in between. Very soft to cuddle with!
Baseball blanket and 3 burp cloths.

The baseball fabric is a cotton fabric with light blue Minkee on the back. I added a layer of flannel to the inside of the burp cloths so they would be a little more absorbent.

You can't use too many pins when you work with Minkee. A walking foot is nice too.

Patches

Working on some patches of a different type. This is my sons flight jacket with all the places he has been or squadrons he worked with.

It was a lot easier than I thought it world be. I used a leather needle and nylon thread. I read that what they use to treat the leather will break down cotton thread. This made it faster since I used a clear thread and didn't need to make any color changes.

I hope to be back to quilting after the holidays. I have a big project to share with you.

Figgy Pudding Quilt by Moda

Since I don't have anything to show you I thought I would pass this free pattern from Moda on to you that I saw on there site. It is called Figgy Pudding since that is the fabric line they used but you could use any fabric. It measures 64 X 88 finished. This would be a great idea to scale down in a baby size quilt.

I have a big quilt to paper piece that I will be starting in January that I plan to share with you. Lots of Hoffman Batiks will be used. I can't wait to get started but I know it will be better if I wait until after Christmas to start.

Ever since I saw this post from Pleasant Home on her Halloween Dish towels I have been wanting to make some of these. I got to Target to late to get the cute pumpkin towels but I was in Hancock Fabrics and saw these cute snowmen towels on sale for $1.40 a piece.

A few Hoffman batik fabrics later and two towels ready for gift giving. I now have two towels for hostess gifts. Anyone want to invite me over?

I'm back from Houston . Houston was amazing as always but no pictures because I didn't take my camera. I volunteered in the QOV booth on Friday afternoon and I got to quilt a QOV on the new Gammill. That was very cool! I didn't know I was going to be quilting while I was there so I was relieved that June had a easy quilt and design already picked for a quilt that I could do. Simply ribbons with stars for the quilting. I think the QOV website is down so the hyper links may not work but will when they get it back up and running. Here is a link to their blog.

I have some quilts finished and ready to deliver! I still need to call and make arrangements for delivery before I can show you more. It would be nice if it wasn't dark when I get home at night for some pictures so this may be all you get to see.

I'm participating for the first time in Amy's quilt festival Fall 2009. I had a hard time picking a quilt but I have decided on this quilt that I made for my first granddaughter. I wish you could touch the Minky and feel how soft it is. The animal faces are machine embroidered on Minky fabric and the backing is also Minky. A very snuggley quilt. Don't forget to visit Amy's site for all the other participates in the Quilt Festival Fall 2009.

I love this new fabric from Robert Kaufman called Animal Party by Amy Schimler. The panel already has wonky log cabins in it. How cool is that? I am planning a new baby quilt with this fabric. I have my tickets purchased for the Houston Quilt Festival. Yeah! I missed last years festival and I’m ready for this year. Anyone else going?

I have been working on a few things that I want to share with you but DD has the camera so I just have this to share with you today.

DD and our new dog Bullet. Bullet is a 15 month old Austrialian Shepard we got him last Friday so he has been taking up some of my time too.

This is a baby quilt I did for a customer. Outlined the tractors and stippled the background. The quilt is really square but my picture taking skills need a lot of improving.

Nine Patch Quilt

I'm back! I have been busy with this custom quilt. Lots of feathered wreaths and a feathered border. The nine patch blocks were quilted with continuous curves.

I love the design on the back of the quilt!

HELP! My cat ate my quilt. At least that is the story I heard from the customer. I cut pieces from muslin to appliqué to the front and back of the quilt. I used a piece of flannel for the batting since that is what it looked like was there originally.

Appliqué finished! What do you think?

New binding attached (customer will be sewing it to the back).

I have my Boxed Squares top sewn together now. Any ideas on what I should use for the border or do you think I should leave it as is?

This is a small quilt I did to practice marking a feather template. I have a larger version of this to quilt soon. I don't think I will be able to say I don't do feathers to much longer.

Did anyone miss me? I took a little vacation (8 days) and managed to lose a whole month. I have lots to share with you and hope to get some pictures together over the weekend because I'm sure you don't want to just read about what I have been doing without pictures.

I do have one picture to share with you. I made a crayon roll to take to someone special.
